Managing your time

How many of us are finding ourselves short of time, especially around the holiday period. Concentrating on identifying your priorities helps you clarify what is possible when you are busy. It will help you identify any issues where time will cause you a problem and help you to consider an appropriate course of action.
When considering time management issues you need to consider:

What is a ‘must do’ activity
What is a ‘nice to do’ activity

You also need to consider where an activity sits into the 4 quadrants (a classic 2×2 management type box) – this was developed by management guru Stephen Covey

You should ideally plan for main parts of your work and activities to be in the Quadrant 2 – so the workload never becomes urgent – example being I do my Christmas shopping through the year. It is important, but I don’t want it to become urgent. I write my christmas cards in October.

Then items in Quadrant 1 will be last minute changes beyond your control.

Activities in Quadrant 3 are not important, but because people feel they are urgent can get caught up working in these areas – which is often caused by distractions. They key here is to say no! A classic example of time being taken up in Quadrant 3 is people checking their emails regularly and thinking they need to response immediately.

Activities in Quadrant 4 – are not even worth doing so why are they on your job list anyway!

I recommend people write a “to do list” and then consider which 4 Quadrants they appear in – this will help you to manage your time and focus on the activities that really matter.

Good luck with your time management over this Christmas period, and hopefully 2013 can be a profitable, successful year for businesses.

Christmas at Win HQ

It’s that time of year again – people are including “and have a great Christmas” at the end of phone conversations and emails.

Today the Win Marketing Christmas Tree (complete with Kirk the Koala perched at the top next to the office Christmas Angel) was put up – with Win purple decorations to brighten up the office.

We are busy designing and sending out Christmas e-messages for our clients at the moment, and festive cheer is evident all around. During 2012, the Win Marketing team has seen a busy year, taking on our first Apprentice, Chris, to support and develop his Web Development and technical support skills – with extremely important jobs like putting up the Christmas tree – see right!

The Win Marketing team has also been kept busy with:

Developing our digital marketing services, including videos, online advertising, search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media – Ann and Jo developed a model for implementation of social media, the SHARE Social Media Model (Strategy, Hear, Act, Review, Engage).

Visiting and following the 2012 Olympic Games – Ann wrote a blog about how focus and drive in sport is echoed in business to achieve your goals. A few of the team were lucky enough to visit the games, and for a few weeks, the team were fixated on the medals table, excited as Team GB climbed further up the table.

As always – we like to keep on top of our skills, industry best practice and knowledge, Jo has completed the first section of her Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma, Ann has maintained her Fellow CIM status through her CPD scheme, and Young Apprentice Chris is developing his skills both on the job and through his studies.

Helping one of our clients – Air Fuel Synthesis (AFS), to achieve national and international media coverage for the release of their news that they are creating petrol from air and water – all powered by renewable energy. This news story was captured around the world in over 2, 500 newspapers, along with additional media, such as BBC News, ITV, Radio 2, Al Jazeera TV and many more. We managed the website, social media and blogs for the organisation during this time, seeing their online visits increase by 12,000% during one day.

During November, Jo bullied the boys in the office to grow their moustaches as part of Movember – in total raising over Β£140 for mens health issues and awareness.

As we head towards the New Year, it lends itself to thinking about goals for 2013 – what is it you would like to achieve throughout next year? More enquiries, new clients or customers, increased turnover, develop more brand awareness? If these and others are your goals for the coming year, see how Win Marketing could help you achieve these through effective marketing activity and planning.

Now is the time we would like to extend our greetings to you, so to you and your teams – have a fantastic Christmas and a successful New Year! From all the Team at Win HQ! πŸ˜€

Movember – Week 4

Week 3 during the month of Movember has passed. The “itchy, stubble phase” and the “initial taking shape of the Mo” are a thing of the past, and currently the office has two gentlemen sitting in the seats of Web Design & Development extrordinaire, Nadeem, and Junior Web Marketing supremo, Chris.

Some of the team (mostly Jo) are quite sad this journey of moustachery is coming to it’s inevitable end. Others are just glad they’ll be able to stop shaving their other facial hair, or shave everything off. Either way, another week continues, and next week will be the final result of the month of Tache Marketing.

Check out our “Facebook” and “Twitter” pages to see how the team are doing πŸ™‚

As always, if you would like to donate to the cause, please do so by “visiting our Movember space”

See you next week for the final line-up and total money raised, fellow Mo-lovers! If youa re growing your mo in support of Movember and men’s health – we both congratulate and support you in your mo growing efforts!

Love and whiskery kisses,

Win x

Movember – Week 3

So now we are officially half way through the month of Movember. The itchy, stubble phase has passed, now is the unkept looking facial fuzz phase unfortunately associated with laziness rather than a clearly defined and dignified looking moustache. However, there is shape taking place, and with it, potential.

Potential for what? You might ask – potential for manly greatness. All tied up in the top lip of the gentleman in question.

Bear this in mind as you browse through the photos from the team this week, and good luck to you if you are currently growing your Mo in support of mens health. As always, if you would like to donate to the cause, please do so by visiting our Movember space.

See you next week fellow Mo-lovers!

Movember – Week 2

Today marks the beginning of the second week of Movember. Many men across the UK, and indeed the globe are perhaps struggling with the hair growth of their upper lip hair.

(Nad and Chris looking unimpressed at posing for Movember week 2 update images)! Here in the office, itchiness began a couple of days ago for Nad and Chris, and daily shaving of beard related hair is becoming an irritant, but as I continue to remind them, ‘it’s the rules! And it’s for a good cause!’ and this seems to keep them on track.

This year, at some bullying from me, Win Marketing decided to get behind the fundraising month of Movember – which helps raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

In recent years, this has seen a small following – with many students joining in during the spirit of Movember. In the last 2 years, I have noticed that this has spread beyond the realm of the university, scraggly bearded student, and has moved to the businessman, the barman, the waiter and the shop assistant, the celebrity and even my granddad (although that might not be quite true – as he sports a dashing mo most of the time anyway)

I have noticed some Win Marketing clients are showing their support to the month of Movember – apologetically mentioning the reason for their impeccably neat and tidy mo is because of this month.

Trending on Twitter for the first 2 days, Movember has grown enormously through the increasing use of social media channels, mostly Facebook and Twitter, but also YouTube.
Join Us!

So with that in mind, I bullied the team into joining in, and here’s the bit where we asking for your help.

We have set up a Movember team page – “‘Tache Marketing'”:http://uk.movember.com/team/836313 for the team on the Movember.com website – and this is where people can donate towards the cause – many mens health charities receive donations as a part of this month – and this website specifically donates any money received to 3 of these charities, Prostrate Cancer UK, The Institute of Cancer Research, and the Movember Foundation.

If you have read this and are thinking ‘good on them!’ or similar, please – drop by our Movember page and share it through your social media channels, share this blog post, retweet our tweets about it, anything to help us spread this message to others during this month.

If you are feeling particularly benevolent today, we would of course welcome any donations through our Movember page – and you’d get a warm, fuzzy feeling that can only be gained by helping others.

(My attempt – Mofakery)! With that in mind, I will get back to working on clients’ marketing needs, and I look forward to seeing any “likes”:http://www.facebook.com/?q=#/pages/Win-Marketing/90771350451?ref=tn_tnmn, shares, “tweets”:https://twitter.com/WinMarketing, donations, and any other support for the boys in our office who are pushing past the itchiness and the unfortunate patchy growth associated with growing a fabulous mo.

(I’m trying my hardest to join in, but for some reason, as much as I try, I cannot even grow stubble…)

If you are joining in this Movember, stop by and say Hi sometime, share photo’s of any mo’s and generally share the love πŸ™‚

Jo
